Martha Rosa Meneses
June 12, 1924 ~ March 28, 2024 (age 99) 99 Years Old
Martha Rosa Torres Meneses Martha Rosa Torres Meneses, 99, of Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully on Holy Thursday, March 28th , 2024, at her home in the loving care of her nine children. Martha was born in Medellin, Colombia on June 12, 1924, to Jose Maria Torres and his wife Laura Rosa Sierra. She was the fifth of twelve children and is survived by her brothers, Samuel Torres (Flor Maria) of Maryland, Mauro Torres (Nora) of Medellin and her sister, Angela Torres of Medellin. Martha grew up in Medellin and married her late husband, Hernando Meneses in 1951. Ten years later, Hernando and Martha moved the family of seven children to San Andres, Colombia where they eventually had two more children. During their days in San Andres, Martha maintained the home and family while Hernando worked hard to pursue their dream of coming to the United States to give their children better education and opportunities. In January 1970, Hernando immigrated to the United States with the three oldest children. Their devout Catholic faith and love saw them through the time spent apart as Hernando worked hard to legally bring Martha and the remaining six children. In 1972 they arrived in Miami and once again, the family was one. Every member of the family proudly became United States citizens. Sadly, her husband Hernando passed away in 1988. Always a smile on her face and laughter in her heart, Martha was dedicated to her entire family. Martha’s eldest grandchild could not say “Abuelita” so he called her “Ita” and from then on, she was known as “Ita”. As her grandchildren grew, her childhood antics came alive. Though small in stature, Ita was seen teaching the grands to walk on stilts, wrestle and roller skate. Ita also loved to watch her wrestling on TV. Martha is survived by her nine children, Nohemi Meneses of Maitland, Fl, Elias Meneses (Doris) of Land O’ Lakes, Fl., Dr. Ruth Meneses-Taylor (Kevin) of Mount Dora, Fl., Magnolia M. Meneses of Miami, Fl., Daniel Meneses (Mariaelena) of Miami, Fl., Saulo L. Meneses (Linda) of Middleburg, Fl., Ana-Ofelia Meneses of Miami, Fl., Judith Emami (Mike) of Jacksonville, Fl., and Edith Meneses of Miami, Fl. Martha is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving niece, Diana Torres of Miami, and numerous nieces and nephews in Colombia as well as the U.S. The Meneses Family is truly grateful to Olga Borbon, who lovingly cared for Martha over the past two years. Psalm 37:18 “The Lord knows the days of the upright, And their inheritance shall be forever.” NK JV
